Timeline & Process

How long does an iPhone battery replacement take in Market Weighton?

Most iPhone battery replacements are completed in 15 to 45 minutes when you book ahead — older iPhones at the quicker end, newer Pro Max models at the longer end because they’re built tighter and the battery is harder to release.

We build in extra time for full testing and a proper charge check before the phone leaves the bench. Walk-ins are welcome; if your model’s battery is in stock we can almost always fit it the same day.

Do I need to book or can I just walk in?

Walk-ins are welcome. Booking ahead guarantees your time slot and the exact battery for your model — we strongly recommend it for newer Pro and Pro Max models since stock moves quickly.

You can book online in under 60 seconds. Pick a time, pick your model, and we’ll have the battery out of stock and on the bench ready.

Can I wait while you do the repair?

Yes — most people do. Market Weighton’s high street is small and easy, plenty of places for a coffee, a walk or a sit-down. For quicker battery jobs you might not even have time to finish a drink before we’re waving you back in.

Do I Actually Need A New Battery?

How do I know if my iPhone needs a new battery?

The classic signs are: dying at 30–40% and shutting down, needing to charge twice a day, getting warm while doing basic things like texting or scrolling, charging slower than it used to, or iOS showing a “Service” or “Peak Performance Capability” message in Settings > Battery.

If you’re not sure, pop in. We’ll read the real battery health figures — capacity, cycle count, shutdown history — in two minutes, no charge. If a new battery won’t fix your problem we’ll tell you that too.

What battery health percentage is too low?

Apple themselves consider batteries below 80% capacity to be worn out. Realistically, most customers start feeling the degradation at 85% — the phone stops feeling snappy and starts dropping at odd percentages.

By 75% most people are charging twice a day and losing performance. Below 70% iOS actively throttles the phone to prevent shutdowns, so everything feels noticeably slower than it used to. A new battery puts you back at 100% and lifts the throttling.

Why does my iPhone die at 30–40% and shut down?

Random shutdowns at 30–40% are a textbook worn-battery symptom. As the battery chemistry degrades, it can no longer deliver the peak voltage the phone demands under load — so iOS cuts the phone off to protect the logic board from damage.

A new battery fixes it in virtually every case. It’s also the reason Apple introduced performance throttling in the first place — the phone slows itself down to avoid those shutdowns happening constantly.

Is a swollen battery dangerous?

Yes — don’t ignore it. A swollen battery is a fire risk, and the internal pressure can crack the screen and damage the logic board if it’s left. If the back or the screen of your phone is visibly lifting, stop charging it, keep it away from anything flammable, and bring it in as soon as possible.

We handle swollen batteries regularly and we have proper fireproof disposal for the old cell. Do not puncture or bend it, and do not throw it in the bin.

Parts & Warranty

What quality of batteries do you use for iPhone repairs?

We use high-grade replacement batteries from trusted UK suppliers, rated to match or exceed the original mAh capacity. Every battery gets tested before it goes into the phone and again after fitting — charge rate, discharge rate, resting voltage.

Genuine Apple batteries are available on some models by request but cost significantly more and take longer to source. For most customers the right-tier aftermarket cell gives you the same real-world experience at a much better price. We’ll always tell you which we’re fitting and why.

What warranty do you offer on iPhone battery replacements?

Every battery we fit carries a 12-month warranty covering any fault with the battery itself — rapid drain, failing to charge, unexpected shutdowns or outright failure. If anything plays up in that window, bring it back and we’ll sort it.

The warranty doesn’t cover further water damage or impact damage.

Will the “Important Battery Message” or “Unknown Part” warning appear after the repair?

On most iPhones before the 11 series, no.

On iPhone 11 and newer, Apple displays a “Service” or “Unknown Part” message in Settings > Battery when any non-genuine battery is fitted — even a brand new one that works perfectly. The phone works exactly the same: charging speed, battery life, shutdown protection and all performance features continue normally. It’s an Apple marketing choice, not a hardware problem.

If it bothers you, genuine Apple batteries are an option on request at a significantly higher price.

Will my Battery Health percentage show 100% after the replacement?

On older iPhones (pre-11 series), yes — Battery Health will normally read 100% Maximum Capacity after we fit the new cell, and you’ll feel it immediately.

On iPhone 11 and newer, Apple’s pairing system means the Battery Health percentage may not display for non-genuine batteries — you’ll see the Service message instead. The battery is still fresh and performing correctly; it’s just that Apple’s system won’t report the figure.

Price & Payment

How much does an iPhone battery replacement cost?

The price depends on your model. Older iPhones — SE, 7, 8, X, XR, 11 — are the most affordable because the parts cost less and fit quicker. Newer iPhones like the 13 Pro, 14 Pro, 15 Pro Max sit at the higher end because the batteries cost more and the labour is more involved.

The price you see on our booking form is the price you pay. No hidden fees, no sudden add-ons after the work’s done.

Do you charge for a battery diagnostic?

No. If you’re unsure whether the battery is your problem, pop in and we’ll read the real battery health figures — capacity, cycle count and shutdown history — in two minutes, no charge.

If a new battery will fix your issue we’ll tell you. If the problem is actually the charging port, software, or something else entirely, we’ll tell you that too. Straight answers, no selling you a repair you don’t need.

Is it cheaper than going to Apple?

On most models, yes — and you don’t have the hour’s drive to Leeds either way. Apple charge a flat-rate battery service fee per tier of iPhone; we price by exact model and keep independent-repair pricing lower because our overheads are lower.

Our batteries carry a 6-month warranty and you get your phone back the same day rather than leaving it with a Genius Bar for a day or two.

Can I pay later or split the cost?

We accept card, cash and bank transfer on the day the repair’s completed. If cost is a concern, have a quiet word — we can sometimes split payments on bigger repairs. We’d rather work with you than turn you away.

Your Data & Privacy

Will I lose my photos or data during a battery replacement?

No. A battery replacement doesn’t touch your internal storage. Photos, contacts, messages, apps, notes — all stay exactly where you left them.

That said, we always recommend backing up to iCloud or your computer before any phone repair. Belt and braces. If something unrelated were to happen, you’d want a backup you could restore from.

Do I have to give you my passcode?

Only if we need to verify Battery Health readings in Settings after the fit, or test any feature that requires the phone unlocked. You’re welcome to stay while we test, or temporarily remove the passcode for the repair and reset it afterwards.

We treat every phone exactly the way we’d want our own treated. Nothing leaves the shop; we’re not going snooping through your stuff.
