i've dropped my phone in water what do i do?
You've dropped your Phone in water, and right now you want to dry it out, assess and fix the damage, and recover the data inside.
Water is the second most common type of damage faced by Phones (after smashed screens) and you've come to the right place for advice.
But a dunk isn't necessarily a death sentence. No guarantees, but with our tips there's every chance your phone will survive to fight (and get wet) another day.
What to do if your iPhone gets wet
Get the iPhone out of the water right away, if you haven't already ! Sorry had to say it !
Do not plug the phone into any electrical supply. If it's plugged in already, unplug it (very carefully) as pushing any more electricity through it can short electrical parts internally more than the battery would. Imagine being in a bath with a toaster. You wouldn't plug it in would you ? If you have a removable battery please take it out.
Do not turn it on as this can cause short circuits too until the water is removed and if it is on - turn it off if you can.
Now did somebody say "Rice"? If you're talking about a water damaged device, I hope you know putting it in rice is just a myth. Yes we all know someone who said it worked on their phone. Rice is unable to pull moisture from inside your device. While waiting for the rice to do it's magic trick you're letting that moisture form corrosion. This corrosion can and will cause short circuits. If you truely would like to save your device please take it to a reputable repair shop immediately and do not try to charge or power your device on. Applying power will cause the corrosion to happen quicker by elecrolysis.
Get the water damaged phone to us either by bringing it in or posting it. Trust me at this point time is irrelevant as to when we work on it. We've brought phones back to life that have been in the sea and left in an airing cupboard for 6 months with no luck by the customer.
